Eligibility Criteria – Class 6 & Class 9

Class 6 – Eligibility
For Sainik School admissions (Session 2026–27)
- Age Limit: Candidate must be between 10 and 12 years as on 31 March of the admission year.
- Date of Birth Range (2026–27): Born between 1 April 2014 and 31 March 2016 (both days inclusive).
- Current Class: Child should be studying in Class 5 in a recognised school at the time of application.
- Nationality: Only Indian citizens are eligible.
- Gender: Boys and girls both are eligible for Class 6 admissions.
Selection Process
Admission is based on the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE), followed by document verification and medical fitness.
For “new Sainik Schools / new intake route”, the age criteria remain same (10–12 years).
Class 9 – Eligibility
For Sainik School admissions (upcoming cycle)
- Age Limit: Candidate must be between 13 and 15 years as on 31 March of the admission year.
- Date of Birth Range: Born between 1 April 2011 and 31 March 2013 (both days inclusive).
- Education: Student must have passed Class 8 from a recognised school at the time of admission.
- Nationality: Only Indian citizens are eligible.
- Gender: Boys are eligible in all Sainik Schools. Girls are eligible only in those schools where Class 9 vacancies for girls are notified.
Selection Process
Admission is through the AISSEE entrance exam, followed by a medical examination. Final admission depends on the merit list + medical fitness.
JNV Class 6 – Eligibility
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (2025–26 cycle)
- Age / DOB: For the 2025–26 admission cycle, candidates must be born between 1 May 2014 and 31 July 2016 (both inclusive) – approximately 10–12 years at the time of admission.
- Education: Student must have passed Class 5 from a recognised school.
- District / Domicile: Generally, the candidate must apply for the JNV located in the same district where the student is studying / residing.
- Rural Quota (if applicable): For rural quota, the child should have studied Classes 3, 4 and 5 in a rural government or recognised school.
Selection Process
Admission to JNV Class 6 is through the JNVST (Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test) conducted by NVS.
JNV Class 9 – Eligibility
Lateral entry to fill vacant seats
- Current Class: Student must be studying in Class 8 in a recognised school during the year of application.
- Age / DOB: Date of birth must be between 1 May 2011 and 31 July 2013 (both inclusive) – approximately 13–15 years at the time of admission.
- Domicile / District Condition: The student must be a bona fide resident of the same district where the JNV is located and generally must be studying in a school located in the same district.
- Nationality: Candidate should be an Indian national.
- Vacant Seats: Class 9 admission is done only to fill vacant seats; availability may vary school-wise.
Selection Process
Admission is through the JNV Class 9 Lateral Entry Test followed by standard verification processes as per NVS guidelines.
RMS Class 6 – Eligibility
Rashtriya Military Schools (2026–27 cycle)
- Age / DOB: Candidate should be 10–12 years old as on 31 March of the admission year. For 2026–27: born between 1 April 2014 and 31 March 2016 (both inclusive).
- Education: Must have passed Class 5 from a recognised school or be studying in Class 5 at the time of application.
Selection Process
Admission is through a Common Entrance Test (CET), which is OMR / MCQ-based, followed by standard procedures as per RMS rules.
RMS Class 9 – Eligibility
Rashtriya Military Schools (2026–27 cycle)
- Age / DOB: Candidate should be 13–15 years old as on 31 March of the admission year. For 2026–27: born between 1 April 2011 and 31 March 2013 (inclusive).
- Education: Must have passed Class 8 from a recognised school or be studying in Class 8 when applying.
Selection Process
Admission is through the RMS Common Entrance Test (CET) for Class 9, followed by other requirements as per the official notification.
